Last term was Drawing I at Middlesex Community College. This term, it's Open Studio Life Drawing at Arlington Center for the Arts. No instruction, but good practice. Today was the first session I was able to attend, and I liked it a lot, though I need to stop trying for realistic sketches on those 30-second warm up poses. My drawings of the 20-minute poses came out much better (for instance, all the limbs were there).

At the end, I tentatively asked the model if she'd like one of the not-great-but-not-horrible drawings I'd done. (I'd made a lot. The session was 3 hours, and 20-minutes was the longest pose.) Yes, she would like one, very much, even though she was nervous about picking out one herself and we did some back and forth silliness of "you pick!" "no, you pick!" till she finally decided.

But she also said that she's been modeling for five years and this is the first time she'd ever been offered a drawing of herself.

So, I did good.

Nevermind the superfluous details... was she naked whilst picking out her drawing.

That was nice of you. I took a college art class with models but it never would have occurred to me to do that. We needed to save our best drawings since the class was graded, but even if we hadn't, I think I would have had a hard time looking the model in the eye afterward. Probably it would be easier now than when I was 19.
