5 cups whisky
2 cups maple syrup
1 Tablespoon dried orange peel
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup water (optional, for a little bit milder taste)
You don't have to use the best whisky, but make it somewhat drinkable. I use Ballantine's, for instance. Normal grade A maple syrup will do, but grade B will add more flavor. And please use real vanilla extract, not imitation.
In a large jar or other glass container, mix whisky, maple syrup, orange peel, and vanilla. Leave for three to five days, stirring every day. Add the water, filter out the orange peel, and bottle. Best after a couple of weeks to mellow.
