March in New England

So there was another trip to Connecticut to drop off my daughter at her college, after spring break. On the way back I stoppped in Plainfield, CT, off Exit 88 of I-395. There's a state highway facility with a huge sand & salt storage barn and with a small stream running past the parking area. It was a Sunday and the lot was empty and I'd needed a place to stop and stretch that didn't involve fast food.

One of the branches in the stream had picked up some dead grass. I thought it looked surprisingly like a lion's tail.

For the snow-challenged, this is how much salt & sand the highway departments around here stock up on to get through the winter (and this was Connecticut, not Maine). The yellow posts at the front of the building are about six feet high.
