Fig-based Cordial

This has been declared a success.  It's based on a newspaper columnist's bar review and report of a cocktail called a "Figaro" so I'll call it the same.

Figaro Cordial

3 cups whisky (bourbon would also work very well)
16 to 20 small dried Mission figs (= one 9 oz. Sun-Maid packet), quartered
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cinnamon sticks, broken into pieces

Put all ingredients into a glass jar and let steep for 2 weeks, stirring at least once a day.  Strain out solids through a very fine-mesh strainer or paper coffee filter or cheesecloth.   Sweeten to taste with sugar syrup, with up to 1 cup syrup to every 2 cups of unsweetened liquid.     (To make sugar syrup:  use 1 cup water to 2 cups sugar and heat just to a boil, stirring, till all sugar crystals have dissolved.   I use organic cane sugar or a mix of white and raw sugars for better flavor.)

This turned out very nice, and with nicely unusual flavors, but next time I might try it adding a little orange peel, too.

It'll never work. 2 _WEEKS_ ! Who's gonna wait 2 weeks ?

*rolls eyes* Okay, if you need it RIGHT AWAY then mash up a couple of figs in the bottom of a glass, pour in a measure of whisky, a half-measure of water, a spoonful of sugar, and a few drops of vanilla extract and stir with a cinnamon stick. :-)
