Culinary Notes

Tonight: 
Hamburgers (from shoulder roast; there's no need to pay "hamburger" prices when a roast is cheaper and the supermarket will grind it for free) with American cheese (only because of the occasion) on bulkie rolls (toasted with butter and a sprinkle of garlic powder), roasted corn on the cob (strip ears, rub with butter and salt and pepper and wrap each tightly and separately in aluminum foil, roast in oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-30 minutes), tomato-mozzarella-pesto salad (with fresh mozzarella, of course), and mixed blueberries and strawberries with whipped cream for dessert. 

Other note:
Commercial packaged rice pilaf is rather yummy when you add mix-ins.   To wit, to two prepared packages of rice pilaf, add half a dozen sliced and carmelized shallots plus four or five fresh tomatoes, diced and sauteed till soft.
