Labor Day

Wow, that was a short three-day weekend!

We'd cleared all the college kids out as of last Wednesday... we thought. Saturday, I picked up my son to go grocery shopping, to get info about his textbooks, to let him pick up a floor fan for his very hot and stuffy 4th-floor dormroom, and then my husband drove him back to college early evening. Sunday, my daughter and a friend of hers came up to tour Boston because the friend had never been here. They left the girl's car in our driveway and I drove them off to the Alewife Red Line station, then saw my son had forgotten a bag in the back of my car and so took that to him, then did our own grocery shopping. In the afternoon, I picked up the girls from Alewife again and ferried them back to our house so they could drive off. Today, finally, a day of rest and a very cool movie ("Inception" in IMAX format) and a good dinner of stewed chicken with garlic and white beans, together with some roasted corn.

Yesterday afternoon between car trips, I also gathered together a bunch of loaner garb: three drawstring skirts, some chemises, an overdress that could be belted in, two sleeveless bodices that could be seamed up the back to take those in, and some jewelry. It seems that my daughter's roommate and the friend with the car, both of them, really really want to go to a Renaissance Faire the end of this month. My daughter admitted some knowledge of such things and they begged her to ask us for dress-up stuff and are forcing her to come along. She said I was supposed to say "no" but it was too much fun to give them what they'd asked for, and more. You see, my daughter HATED the idea of garb, HATED being dragged to SCA events (which we did while she was too young to stay home alone), and thought the rest of us were very silly for liking it. And now, turns out her college friends think that sort of stuff is cool. *snicker*
